SUI

  • Wendi (founder)

  • Rebuilds the Great Wall and builds canal

  • Canal boosts trade

  • Forced labor and high death rates cause civil unrest

  • Rebels overthrow government

The Sui Dynasty was located on the coast of China and lasted from 581-618. Their short reign on eastern China was full of many advances in Chinese infrastructure. Their leader and founder Wendi believed in restoring and advancing China. He restored the Great Wall, which helped protect the empire, and he built the Great Canal, leading from northeast China, to central China. These efforts increased protection and boosted trade. The construction of these projects led to high death rates of workers. The builders were not slaves, but were forced to work. This caused civil unrest, which lead to a rebellion. The small army could not defend the capitol, which lead to the rebels overthrowing the government.(Jason)
